Public Liability Insurance From BC4U
Public liability insurance is designed to cover you against claims made against you or your business by members of the public or other businesses. If members of the public or customers have access to your place of work or premises or you go to theirs (including if you work from home), you should seriously consider taking out public liability.
What does Public Liability Cover?
Public Liability Insurance covers any awards for damages given to a customer or a member of the public because of an injury or damage to their property caused by you, your employees and/or your business.
Public liability does not cover employees. If you have any employees, you will need to take out Employers Liability Insurance.
How much will Public Liability cost?
The cost of cover differs by type of business. Most insurance companies base their premium on a businesses annual turnover. Typically, public liability insurance is a fraction of the cost of potential legal costs, damages and expenses and certainly worth consideration.
Do I need Public Liability?
Unlike Employers Liability, it is not generally compulsory. However, for many sole traders, tradesman and members of the public, proof of public liability could be required before you are allowed to enter their premises or commence work.
